Your privacy

Your privacy, in plain words

This page is a short guide. The privacy policy is the binding text; if the two ever differ, the privacy policy applies.

In short

  • Your exact position never leaves your phone. Others see your location no closer than about 1 km, or not at all if you choose Hidden.
  • We remove the location and camera data from your photos and videos on your phone, before upload, and again on our server.
  • New adventures are visible to Everyone unless you choose Followers or Only me. You can change the default in Settings → Privacy.
  • We do not sell your data and we do not show you targeted ads. No ads in this version.
  • No GPS track: the app never records your route, and we build no heatmap of where people go.
  • Every privacy and safety control is free.
  • Didventure is for adults (18+). You can browse without an account.

The policy's own summary: privacy policy, In short.

How location works

From section 4 of the privacy policy:

  • The app asks only for approximate location, and only when you use it while logging an adventure.
  • If a photo or video you pick carries a location, the app reads it on your phone to suggest nearby spots.
  • Your phone turns that position into a 1 km cell before anything is saved. The exact position never leaves your phone.
  • When you post with Rounded location (the default), others see a position no closer than about 1 km. With Hidden, no location of yours is attached; only the spot is shown.
  • The adventure map shows spots, not people: each pin sits on the spot's public location, snapped to about 1 km. Followers-only, only-me and hidden-location adventures never appear on it.
  • Places we mark as sensitive (private land, protected habitats) always hide location.
  • Photos and videos lose their embedded GPS and camera data on your phone before upload.
  • Version 1.0 sends no usage analytics at all. Crash reports never contain coordinates.

A New spot is different: it is a pin you place yourself on a public place, and it is stored to about 100 m.

What we collect

  • Your account: email address and password. The password is kept by our sign-in provider, Google Firebase, never by us.
  • Your profile: display name, handle, bio, photo, home region (free text, never your address) and interests.
  • What you post: photos and videos, your story, the date, the spot, the category and intensity, and who can see it.
  • Spots you add: the pin you place, its name and details.
  • What you do in the app: follows, stokes, saves, blocks, reviews and reports.
  • A push token for your phone, registered when you sign in, so the notifications you switch on can reach you.
  • Crash reports (see below) and your messages to support.

We do not collect: your exact location, your location in the background, your contacts, your photo library (you pick each photo or video yourself with the system picker), your date of birth, phone number, or advertising ids. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

The privacy policy lists the legal basis for each use, section 3.

Who sees what

  • Each adventure goes to Everyone, Followers or Only me; you choose when you post. Everyone is the default, and you can change it in Settings → Privacy.
  • Your email address is never shown to other users.
  • The person you report is not told who reported them.
  • In this version an adventure cannot be edited or deleted in the app after posting: write to [email protected] and we remove it, or delete your account to remove everything.

Full table: privacy policy, section 5.

Analytics and crash reports

  • This version of the app sends no usage analytics. If we add an analytics service later, the app asks for your consent first and the privacy policy changes before it starts.
  • Crash reports go to Sentry in the EU. No IP address, no user id, no name or email, and no content.
