Privacy and location
You choose who sees each adventure and how your location shows. Your exact position never leaves your phone.
Updated 15 October 2026 · Android app
Who sees an adventure
You choose on the Share step of every adventure, under Who can see it:
- Everyone (the default): in the Feed, on your profile, on the spot's page and on the adventure map, once it passes review.
- Followers: only people who follow you see it.
- Only me: only you see it. It still counts in your Passport.
How your location shows
Under Your location on the same step:
- Rounded (the default): your location is never shown closer than about 1 km.
- Hidden: no location of yours is attached; only the spot is shown.
Right above Publish, one line says what you chose, for example "Everyone sees it after a quick review. Your location is rounded to about 1 km." Tap Change to change it before you post.
Change your defaults
- Open Passport and tap Settings (the sliders button at the top).
- Under Privacy, set Default visibility for new adventures and Your location on new adventures.
Defaults apply to new adventures. To change one you already posted, write to support@didventure.com.
Public Passport
Also under Settings → Privacy. When on, other people can see your Passport stamps and counts in the app, never your location. It is off until you turn it on.
What stays on your phone
- The app asks only for approximate location, and only when you tap Use my location while logging.
- If a photo or video carries a location, the app reads it on your phone to suggest spots. Your phone turns any position into a 1 km cell before anything is saved: your exact position never leaves it.
- The location and camera data inside your photos and videos is removed on your phone before upload, and again on our server.
- The app never records a route and never tracks you in the background.
The adventure map shows spots, not people
Each photo pin sits on the spot's public location, snapped to about 1 km. Followers, Only me and hidden-location adventures never appear on it. Places we mark as sensitive, such as private land or protected habitats, always hide location.
A person checks before anything goes public
Every new adventure is checked by a person on our team before anyone else can see it. If it is hidden or removed later, its public copies are taken down too.
